Located in the southwest of Shandong Province, Qufu is renowned as the birthplace of the illustrious Confucius (551BC – 479BC). Positioned 160 kilometers (99 miles) from the provincial capital of Jinan and 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Jining, Qufu holds significant historical and cultural importance.

Confucius, born in Qufu, is celebrated as one of the world’s greatest philosophers and the progenitor of Chinese Confucianism. Over more than 2,000 years, Confucianism has evolved into the predominant culture of China and has exerted influence over nations in East and Southeast Asia. The majority of Qufu’s attractions are intertwined with the life and teachings of Confucius, with the Qufu Confucius Temple, Confucius Family Mansion, and Cemetery standing out as the highlights. These three sites have been recognized as World Cultural Heritage sites by UNESCO. The Confucius Temple holds the distinction of being one of China’s three ancient buildings, while the Confucius Mansion boasts an extensive collection of historical relics spanning various dynasties.
