Tangmo Village stands as a testament to ancient Chinese culture and aesthetics, earning its reputation as an “ancient garden museum” due to its exquisite landscape and rich history. Situated around the central Shizishan Mountain, the village is enveloped by elephant-shaped hills to the southwest and flatlands in other directions, creating a picturesque setting for visitors to explore.

As visitors wander through Tangmo Village, they are greeted by well-preserved stone lanes that crisscross the village, leading to every corner and revealing its timeless charm. The Tanggan River meanders through the village, flanked by old residential houses, picturesque water streets, and a scattering of ancestral halls. Despite the devastation wrought by the Cultural Revolution, which led to the destruction of some ancestral halls, Tangmo Village still retains much of its original beauty and architectural heritage.

One of the highlights of the village is the main path lined with shading trees, following a stream adorned with stone bridges and small ponds, creating a tranquil atmosphere ideal for leisurely strolls. Gaoyang Bridge, a Qing Dynasty-era structure, spans the river, while a forest of gingko trees and historic buildings such as Taizi Hall, Taizi Temple, and Zhuangyuan Mansion add to the village’s allure.

For those with ample time, nearby attractions such as the Memorial Archways & Bao’s Private Garden Huizhou Ancient City and Chengdu Village beckon with their own historic and cultural significance, providing further opportunities for exploration and discovery. Tangmo Village, with its blend of natural beauty, architectural marvels, and cultural heritage, offers a truly immersive experience into the rich tapestry of China’s past.
