On the way toThe Jian Kou Great Wall, if traffic allows, stop to photograph the iconic “Bird’s Nest”– the Beijing National Stadium–host to many spectacular events of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
It will take 2-2.5 hours to arrive Jiankou Great Wall.Your hike will begin from a small village called Xizhazi at the foot of Jiankou Great Wall.Then you will start the hike by following a zigzag hillside trail.Once arrive the Great Wall it reach to 1000 meters above sea level.After enjoy the amazing surroundings, you will start your hike to Mutianyu, it is around 10km, and takes 4 hours.Once arrive Mutianyu Great Wall, you have the choice to take the cable car down the hill which is at tower 14 and closer, or continue walk to tower 6, and try a fun experience of the toboggan down the mountain which is fun but some times you have to wait half an hour along the queue.Hike to tower 6 is not that difficult compared the Jiankou section siince it is mostly down hill.Our driver will pick you up from the parking lot.

The Jian Kou Great Wall is one of the best places for a serious Great Wall enthusiast. It has a wide variety of places to climb. It has terrific scenery and offers great opportunities for photographers. It’s reasonably close to Beijing. And as the eastern meeting point of the inner and outer Ming Walls, it connects to long stretches of Great Wall in three directions.

Jiankou is translated as “Arrow Nock” in English, since the shape of the mountains where the walll was built is like an arrow with the collpased ridge opening as its arrow nock. The main section of the wall was built along the ridges with steep cliffs on each side. Therefore, you have to prepare for a good fitness and great care if you climb this section

Originally Jiankou Great Wall was built in Tang Dynasty and was restored largely in the Ming Dynasty. It connects to Mutianyu Great Wall in the east and Huanghuacheng Great Wall in the west. It’s the most dangerous and steep section of all Ming Dynasty Great Wall. It stretches from “The Ox Horn Edge Wall” in the east to “The Nine-Eye Tower” in the north via “The Beijing Knot” with total length of 9.3 miles.Therefore, you have to prepare for a good fitness and great care if you climb this section

The Mutianyu Great Wall is known for its beautiful surroundings – dense woods and rich pastures changing colors with the seasons of the year. Built mainly from granite, the pass at Mutianyu is an appropriately unique section of the Great Wall. 7 to 8 meters high, and 4 to 5 meters high with crenellations on both sides of the Wall, the section of the Wall at Mutianyu stretches for over 2 kilometers.
The Mutianyu Great Wall was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), on the remnants of a Wall originally built in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). Reconstruction took place under the supervision of Xu Da, one of the founding generals of the Ming Dynasty, who was responsible for building a Wall from Shanhaiguan in the east to as far as Mutianyu. The Ming pass at Mutianyu was officially proclaimed in 1404, where is would serve as an important symbol of protection from marauding nomads to the north.
Reconstruction began in 1568 on 1000km of the Wall including Mutianyu. Responsibility was given to Qi Jiguang, a general who had built his credentials fighting Japanese pirates, and who took his responsibilities as a builder very seriously. Construction continued for many years, as the fortifications were built up with solid granite blocks, and included the construction of some of the larger defensive towers.

Hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu allows you to experience a contrast between old and new and provides insight to the two different sides of the Great Wall of China that are world’s apart.

Kids and seniors are not recommended here
This section of the Wall was considered as “the most dangerous outdoor recreation site in Beijing.So please wear proper footwear.
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen,sun-glasses,snacks and food,etc.

We offer the Authantic Chinese food in the local restaurant,if you have special request please tell us in advance’The quotated price is for a tour between 8 to 9 hours,additional hours are billed $15  per hour  for the guide and $15 per hour for the driver.
The itinerary is flexible,we can adjust it according to your personal interests/weather/any unexpected conditions
At the moment we only have three English speaking drivers,don’t worry if they already booked ,we do have Chinese speaking driver available, they can use their phone to call our translator at any time for help
If you choose to use the driver only, the price is for the driver and private car/van only,please pay your own entrance fee and food
If you choose to use the driver only,then our driver will drop you off at Jiankou section and pick you up from Mutianyu’s parking lot(Their big entrance–you have to reach there by Mutianyu’s shuttle bus)–Meeting point is the Tickets office at Mutianyu Entrance

Jiankou Great Wall is not peaceful any more. The scenery is breathtaking here, but it’s not for all ages. Due to the unrestored condition and more and more visitors, the wall is becoming loose and unsteady.  You have to watch your steps very carefully. In a bad weather like lightening and rainstorm, you have to get off the wall as quick as possible. Several Chinese were killed by lightening in the past years.

Definitely kids and seniors are not recommended here. Simatai, Jinshanling and Mutianyu are good alternatives.

Comfortable boots is a necessary. Stick is helpful but some sections you have to climb up by hands.
