Laoshan’s landscape is equally impressive: with sheer cliffs and cascading waterfalls, it’s widely recognized across China as the source of the country’s famous mineral water—a key ingredient in local Tsingtao Beer.

Among the preserved Taoist sites, Taiqing Palace stands out as the largest and oldest. First built in the early Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127), it boasts nearly 1,000 years of history and features a simple, understated architectural style.

Another highlight is Dragon Waterfall (also known as Jade Dragon Pool). Its water originates from a valley between Tianchadui (500 meters above sea level) and Beiyuan Spring. The Jianshui River cuts through the mountains, collecting dozens of mountain streams along the way to form a rushing current. This current plunges down a cliff approximately 30 meters high, shooting out several feet before twisting and turning mid-air to form a 30-meter-tall, 5-meter-wide waterfall. It then cascades down the 90-degree cliff into a deep blue pool below. The waterfall’s momentum resembles a vigorous jade dragon—leaping from the cliff top, soaring through clouds and mist, roaring downward, and splashing water in all directions as it hits the pool.

Beneath the waterfall, there’s a long, pointed boulder. Sitting on the platform nearby, you can look out at the surrounding peaks in the distance and gaze up close at the grand “Dragon Pool Spraying Rain” scenery.
