Dafo Temple (Big Buddha Temple):
A must-visit for Buddhist culture and ancient architecture enthusiasts, Dafo Temple is Zhangye’s iconic landmark, housing a 34.5-meter-long reclining Buddha (earning it the local nickname “Reclining Buddha Temple”). Built in 1098 during the Western Xia Dynasty (1038-1227), it is one of China’s four remaining royal temples (alongside Beijing’s Lama Temple, Shaanxi’s Famen Temple, and Yunnan’s Chongsheng Temple). - Road Border Crossings: For overland travel, key border crossings include Torugart Pass and Irkeshtam Pass (connecting to Kyrgyzstan), Karasu Port (linking to Tajikistan), and Khunjerab Pass (the only land border between China and Pakistan).
