    Day 1: Arrival in Yinchuan & Leisure Exploration

    Welcome to Yinchuan, the capital and transportation hub of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Upon your arrival at Yinchuan Airport or Railway Station, our tour guide will greet you warmly and transfer you to your downtown hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this exotic northwestern city at your own rhythm.

    Day 2: Xixia Legacy, Helan Mountain Rock Art & Winery Experience (B, L)

    After breakfast, meet your guide to dive into a day of cultural discovery focused on the ancient Xixia Kingdom, nomadic heritage, and Helan Mountain’s renowned wine culture.
    First, journey 30km from downtown Yinchuan to the Western Xia Imperial Tombs, a sprawling imperial mausoleum complex built between the 11th and 13th centuries. As one of China’s largest and best-preserved imperial cemetery sites, it features 9 emperors’ tombs and over 200 accompanying tombs for princes and nobles. Each mausoleum is an independent north-south oriented complex, boasting a scale comparable to Beijing’s Ming Tombs but with a unique architectural style often likened to Egyptian pyramids.
    Next, visit Yuanshi Chateau, a prestigious winery in the Helan Mountain region renowned for producing top-tier wines. Benefiting from the area’s distinctive climate and terrain, the grapes here develop rich sugar content and balanced acidity—key to crafting exceptional wines. Enjoy a guided tour of the chateau, whose impressive eco-friendly architecture blends classic Chinese garden aesthetics, and indulge in wine tastings (varies by your package).
    Conclude the day with a visit to the Rock Paintings of Helan Mountain, an ancient artistic archive created 3,000 to 10,000 years ago. These carvings depict the daily life and rituals of prehistoric northwestern peoples—including grazing, hunting, sacrifices, warfare, and dancing—serving as an invaluable treasure trove for studying ancient human culture and history. After the day’s explorations, you’ll be driven back to downtown Yinchuan.

    Day 3: Tengger Desert Adventure & Sanguankou Great Wall (B)

    Today’s highlight is an exhilarating day trip to the Tengger Desert. En route, make a stop at the Sanguankou Great Wall Ruins, a Ming Dynasty defense structure built to fend off Mongol invasions.
    Unlike many deserts labeled “lifeless zones,” the Tengger Desert is a haven of vitality, boasting endless rolling sand dunes and over 420 lakes—each as stunning as a glowing gem. To ensure an unparalleled experience, we provide a private desert SUV with an experienced driver to take you along a curated, less-crowded route: Swan Lake → Emerald Lake → Wulan Lake → Camel Lake → Hailiuqi Lake → Guitar Lake → Desert Dream Highway.
    • Swan Lake: A pristine, slice-shaped lake surrounded by sand dunes, oases, and local Mongolian yurts. Wild swans, ducks, and other birds migrate here annually between March–April and September–October.
    • Emerald Lake: Also known as the “Dragon’s Eye Lake,” this small yet distinctive lake shimmers with emerald-green waters, formed by natural minerals and microorganisms .
    • Wulan Lake: The desert’s most unique lake, resembling a human heart with interconnected red patches when viewed from above—earning it the local nickname “the Heart of the Earth.”
    • Camel Lake: Shaped like a walking camel, its pink hues shift with sunlight and temperature changes, thanks to the lake’s mineral content.

    Day 4: Museum, Shuidonggou Ruins & Departure (B, L)

    Before your departure, embark on a half-day tour to uncover Ningxia’s archaeological wonders and cultural relics.
    Start with a visit to the Ningxia Museum, home to over 40,000 historical artifacts—including 159 national first-class cultural relics and more than 4,000 third-class and above treasures. Its collection features three iconic national gems: the Hu Whirling Dance Stone-carved Tomb Gate, the Gilt Bronze Bull, and the Lishi Zhiwen Stone Carving.
    Next, take a 45-minute drive (38km) to Shuidonggou Ruins (The Valley of Water Caves), China’s earliest excavated Paleolithic cultural site. Hailed as “the birthplace of Chinese prehistoric archaeology” and “a witness to China-West cultural exchanges,” it was discovered in 1923 by French paleontologists Teilhard de Chardin and E. Licent. Excavations have yielded numerous stone tools and animal fossils, offering vivid insights into 40,000-year-old human life. The site also houses China’s most complete ancient military defense system, including the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, beacon towers, castles, and soldiers’ hiding caves , alongside stunning Danxia landform scenery.
    Following the tour, you’ll be transferred to Yinchuan Airport or Railway Station for your departure, marking the end of your unforgettable Ningxia adventure.
