3 Days Wudang Mountain Highlights Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Wudangshan

• Welcome & Transfer: Fly or take a train to Shiyan or Wudangshan—China’s revered No.1 Taoist Mountain! Our local guide and driver will greet you at the airport or train station, then escort you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to wander and uncover the mysteries of this sacred destination at your own pace.
• Travel Tips:

  (a) Shiyan Wudangshan Airport (30km from Wudang Mountain) offers flights to/from major cities including Wuhan, Xi’an, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Kunming, and Chengdu.

  (b) Wudangshan West Railway Station (12km from Wudang Mountain) operates high-speed trains: ~2–2.5 hours from Wuhan, 6 hours from Beijing, and 2.5 hours from Zhengzhou.

  (c) Shiyan Railway Station (36.5km from Wudang Mountain) has more train options but is farther than Wudangshan West.

• Evening Suggestions:
  • Optional: Enjoy the “A Dream of Wudang” show at Taiji Theater (20:00–21:10, tickets available for on-site purchase).
  • Wander Yuxu Street, a newly built cultural thoroughfare modeled after traditional Wudang architecture, located near Yuxu Palace.

Day 2: Wudangshan Taoist Heritage Full-Day Tour (B)

• Meals Included: Breakfast (B)
• Itinerary: Yuxu Palace → Prince Slope (Fuzhen Guan) → Needle-Grinding Well → Nanyan Temple → Purple Cloud Palace (Zixiao Palace)
• Morning: After breakfast, embark on a full-day journey through Wudang’s Taoist legacy.
  • Yuxu Palace: Begin at one of Wudang’s largest architectural complexes, first constructed during the Ming Dynasty’s Yongle reign. Explore well-preserved ancient structures and ruins, including 1,036-meter-long palace walls, two stele pavilions, the foundations of five inner-city halls, and Qing Dynasty-rebuilt halls (Father and Mother Hall, Cloud Hall) alongside the ruins of the Eastern, Western, and Northern Heaven Gates—all exuding profound historical charm.
• Afternoon:
  • Prince Slope (Fuzhen Guan): Take a sightseeing bus to this temple, originally built in 1412 during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Legend has it that the Prince of Jingle State cultivated Taoism here, giving the site its name. Wander the winding path to the “Pond of Tears” (linked to a poignant tale) and marvel at the architectural wonder of the Five-story Tower.
  • Needle-Grinding Well: Visit the site where Zhen Wu (Wudang’s patron deity) overcame self-doubt before attaining divinity. Learn the story of “grinding an iron rod into a needle”—a parable that inspired Zhen Wu to persist in his Taoist practice and ascetic lifestyle.
  • Nanyan Temple: Explore this cliffside holy land where Zhen Wu is said to have ascended to heaven. Admire Taoist temples, elegant architectures, and cliff inscriptions set against stunning natural backdrops.
  • Purple Cloud Palace (Zixiao Palace): Conclude the day at one of Wudang’s best-preserved palaces, featuring 9 buildings and 182 rooms. Its structures are symmetrically arranged along the mountain slope, presenting a magnificent and grand sight. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to witness Taoist priests conducting afternoon chanting ceremonies around 17:00.
• Return: After the day’s explorations, be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 3: Wudangshan Peaks, Valleys & Departure (B)

• Itinerary: Qiongtai Palace → Golden Palace (Jin Ding) → Carefree Valley (Xiaoyao Valley) → Wudang Museum → Departure
• Morning:
  • Qiongtai Palace: After breakfast, board a sightseeing bus to this major Taoist temple (altitude: 1,350 meters)—the starting point of Wudang’s cable car.
  • Golden Palace (Jin Ding): Take the cable car to Tianzhu Peak (1,612 meters), Wudang’s highest peak, then hike a short distance to the Golden Palace. Built in 1416 during the Ming Dynasty, this is China’s largest surviving brass-cast building and Wudang’s iconic symbol. Stand atop the peak for panoramic views of the sacred mountain, hidden temples, sea of clouds, lush forests, and rocky landscapes—truly a “heaven on earth.”
  • Carefree Valley (Xiaoyao Valley): Descend via cable car, then transfer to this fairy-tale-like valley for a leisurely walk. Encounter playful macaques amid serene natural surroundings.

  • Wudang Museum: Deepen your understanding of Taoism and Wudang’s heritage at this museum. Explore eight exhibition halls covering Taoist history, architecture, notable figures, statues, folk customs, music, and martial arts—enriching your journey with fascinating insights.
