Your English-speaking guide and private car pick you up at 8:00 am from your self-booked Urumqi hotel. Enjoy a 3-hour drive to Turpan. Your guide shares stories about the Silk Road and Xinjiang’s history along the way.

- Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves: 5th–14th century Buddhist grottos on Flaming Mountains cliffs. Most caves date to the 10th–13th century West Uyghur kingdom.
- Emin Minaret (Su Gong Ta): Xinjiang’s largest ancient tower. It’s the only Islamic tower among China’s top 100 famous towers.
- Karez Irrigation System: One of China’s three great projects. This unique system has irrigated Turpan’s arid land for hundreds of years.
- Ancient City of Jiaohe: A 2,300-year-old earthen city. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest, oldest preserved earthen city.
- Flaming Mountains: China’s hottest place with summer temps up to 47.8 °C. It features barren red sandstone hills from Journey to the West.
- Astana Tombs: A 4th–8th century cemetery with 1,000+ tombs. Arid conditions have preserved artifacts and natural mummies.
- Ancient City of Gaochang: A 1st century BC Silk Road key point. It was a Uighur Kingdom capital before being abandoned in the 14th century.
Day 3: Turpan → Urumqi | Heavenly Lake & Nomadic Lifestyle
Your guide and private car pick you up at 9:00 am from your self-booked Urumqi hotel. Take a 2-hour drive to Tianchi (Heavenly Lake). The route passes wind farms, rivers and mountain pastures.
Tianchi is a high-mountain lake in the Tianshan Mountains. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Walk along the lake shore and forest paths with your guide. Soak in the mountain scenery and pine-scented air.
Spot Kazakh yurts dotting the lake bank. These are homes of local nomads. Enjoy a traditional lunch in a yurt. Experience the unique charm of Kazakh nomadic life. Catch an evening flight to Kashgar afterward.
Day 4: Urumqi → Kashgar | City Highlights & Cultural Immersion
Your guide and private car pick you up at 10:00 am from your self-booked Urumqi hotel. Start with Red Hill, Urumqi’s iconic landmark. Climb to the peak for a bird’s-eye view of the city.
Next, visit the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Museum (closed Mondays). Your guide explains fascinating exhibits including the famous ancient mummy collection.
Then head to Erdaoqiao Grand Bazaar. Soak up local Uyghur life and sample mouthwatering street food. Enjoy an included lunch at a Uyghur restaurant. After the tour, return to your self-booked Urumqi hotel.
Day 5: Kashgar | Exotic Old Town & Karakul Lake Adventure
Your guide and private car pick you up at 8:00 am from your self-booked Kashgar hotel. Drive 4 hours to Karakul Lake via the Karakoram Highway. This 1979 road is called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” for its high elevation.
Enjoy unspoiled scenery and small village views along the way. Arrive at Karakul Lake, a 3,600-meter-high Pamir plateau lake. It’s surrounded by snow-capped peaks like Muztagh Ata and Kongur Tagh. Its water shifts from dark green to azure blue.
