Once you finish your self-guided tour, head back to the drop-off point to meet your driver.
Shaolin Temple is the birthplace of Chinese Zen Buddhism and Shaolin Martial Arts, with its Pagoda Forest boasting over 240 tomb pagodas from the Tang to Qing dynasties (618–1911)—a single sentence that captures its status as China’s largest pagoda forest and a living testament to over a thousand years of spiritual and martial heritage.
Don’t miss these three must-see areas in the temple complex:
- Kung Fu Performance Hall: Spot the hall right after you enter the compound. Arrive early in the morning, and you’ll watch students of all ages practicing their gravity-defying moves outdoors. The official Kung Fu performance is mind-blowing—absolutely not to be missed.
- Shaolin Temple Core Area: Wander through sacred spots like the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Dharma Cave, and Martial Art Training Center. Each corner is steeped in stories of monks and martial arts masters.
- Pagoda Forest: Take a leisurely half-kilometer stroll along a wooded path to reach this serene area. It’s the final resting place of eminent Shaolin monks and abbots, with pagodas of all sizes dotting the peaceful hillside.
Transfer to Longmen Grottoes
After reuniting with your driver, hop back into the vehicle for the trip to Longmen Grottoes.
