Morning: Kunming Departure & Xi’an Arrival
Your driver will greet you at your Kunming hotel lobby and transfer you to the airport for your 2.5-hour flight to Xi’an. Upon landing, your local guide will be waiting at the arrival hall exit with a name sign to welcome you. On the drive into the city, chat with your professional guide to customize your 2-day Xi’an itinerary—you’ll have 6–8 hours of exploration time each day, with full control over your pace and the number of attractions you want to visit. At the end of the tour, you can choose to stay in Xi’an (with drop-off at your city hotel) or fly back to Kunming (with airport transfer arranged).
Morning: The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses
Kick off your adventure with a visit to the Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, hailed as “the Eighth Wonder of the World,” an underground army accidentally discovered by four local farmers drilling a well in 1974 and now one of Xi’an’s most iconic landmarks. Wander through the museum’s three main pits with your guide, marvel at the lifelike terracotta soldiers and horses arranged in grand battle formations, and listen to vivid stories about the Qin Dynasty and the mausoleum’s construction. Every soldier has a unique facial expression and armor style, a testament to the superb craftsmanship of ancient Chinese artisans, and your guide will point out hidden details like the soldiers’ hairstyles and weaponry that reflect the military hierarchy of the Qin era.
Midday: Authentic Xi’an Lunch
Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, savoring classic Xi’an specialties like biangbiang noodles, roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), and lamb soup to refuel for the afternoon.
Afternoon: Xi’an City Wall Stroll
Head to the Xi’an City Wall, a 600-year-old ancient defense structure stretching 14 kilometers long, recognized as the best-preserved and longest city wall in China. Climb to the top of the ramparts, walk or cycle along the wide paths (bike rental available at your own cost), and admire the stunning contrast between the ancient fortifications and the modern city skyline below. The wall was originally built during the Ming Dynasty, with massive ramparts, crenellations, and gate towers that once served as the city’s main line of defense, and you can stop at the gate towers to learn about the wall’s military history and how it was maintained over centuries.
Afternoon: Muslim Quarter Exploration
Next, explore the bustling Muslim Quarter, the vibrant hub of Xi’an’s Muslim community. Follow your guide to wander through the lively streets lined with food stalls and souvenir shops, breathe in the aroma of grilled lamb skewers and candied hawthorns, and browse unique handicrafts while soaking in the area’s rich cultural atmosphere. The quarter has a history of over 1,000 years, blending Islamic and Chinese cultural traditions, and you’ll see locals selling traditional snacks like persimmon cakes and pita bread soaked in lamb soup, as well as handmade textiles and jewelry that showcase the community’s artistic heritage.
Evening: Transfer to Hotel
