You’ll then head to the railway station to board a 1.5-hour bullet train to Tianshui, ensuring a quick and comfortable journey. Upon arriving in Tianshui, you’ll be transferred directly to Maijishan Grottoes – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China’s Four Great Grottoes.
  First constructed in 384 AD during the Later Qin Dynasty, the grottoes were expanded over the course of centuries across more than ten dynasties. Carved into the sheer cliffs of a Danxia landform mountain (shaped like a wheat stack, hence the name “Maijishan”), this Buddhist art complex has stood the test of time. Despite natural erosion, over 194 caves remain intact, housing more than 7,200 exquisite clay sculptures, stone carvings, and murals that showcase the evolution of ancient Chinese Buddhist art.
  You’ll traverse narrow wooden plank walkways clinging to the cliff face, getting up close to the lifelike statues – including the famous “Smile of the East” Buddha – while soaking in sweeping views of the lush, painting-like mountain scenery below. After exploring the grottoes, you’ll be transferred back to Tianshui Railway Station to catch the return bullet train to Lanzhou. Upon arrival in Lanzhou, you’ll be taken back to your hotel, marking the end of the tour.
