Wander the Muslim Quarter’s winding lanes, where butcher shops, sesame oil workshops, and intimate mosques—hidden behind massive wooden gates—line the paths. You’ll spot locals going about their days: men in white skullcaps and women with colorful headscarves, adding vibrant life to the historic streets. Steeped in over 1,300 years of history, this neighborhood has been home to a predominantly Muslim community since the 7th century, and many of its signature dishes have remained true to their ancient recipes. Chefs sizzle lamb and fragrant spices in woks over roaring coal fires, while nearby hawkers roast walnuts or peddle prunes of varying grades and prices.
