Juyongguan is of great military importance since ancient times due to its strategically important terrain. Juyongguan Pass was first built as early as the Qin Dynasty when Emperor Qinshihuang ordered the building of the Great Wall. The current section of Juyongguan Great Wall was built in 1368 when the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was founded, and repaired several times later.
