Leshan Giant Buddha is located in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, at the confluence of the Minjiang River, Qingyi River and Dadu River, across the river from Leshan City, more than 160 kilometers north of Chengdu. It is a large Buddha chiselled on the cliff of Qixia Peak of Lingyun Mountain.

Leshan Giant Buddha is the premier site to visit in Leshan. Carved out of a hillside in 803 (during Tang dynasty) and enjoying a height of 71 meters which can be compared to the size of the Statue of Liberty if he stands upright, it was credited as World Natural and Cultural Heritage with Mount Emei by UNESCO. Built in the year 713 in the Tang Dynasty, and finished in the year 803, the statue took people more than 90 years to carve. During these years, thousands of workers had expended their efforts and wisdom on the project. Now it’s the biggest carved stone Buddha in the world.
