The Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park in Gansu province, situated along the northern slope of the Qilian Mountain range in western China, showcases one of the most spectacular examples of Danxia landforms in the country. This park is renowned for its vibrant and colorful landscape, earning it the moniker of China’s Rainbow Mountains. With its undulating fiery-red ridges and mesmerizing multicolored mountain folds, the park resembles an immense sea of fire with rolling waves, captivating visitors from around the world.

As the largest Danxia landscape in an arid area, Zhangye Danxia Geopark boasts a diverse array of landforms, making it a top geological attraction. The park’s geological structure is the result of billions of years of natural processes, including weathering, water erosion, and the unique geological composition of the region. Over time, the red sandstones, psephites, and pelites have been sculpted into isolated mountains and steep rock formations, creating a breathtaking panorama of natural artistry.

The vibrant hues of the sandstone formations, ranging from deep reds to vivid oranges and yellows, contribute to the park’s allure, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Recognized as one of the ‘Top 10 Geographical Wonders of the World’ by the National Geographic, the Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park offers visitors the opportunity to marvel at the awe-inspiring masterpieces crafted by the forces of nature over millennia.
