Badaling is the most popular tourists section, it is the section “Every one” goes to because it is the easiest and closest to get to from Beijing. It has amazing vies and its the most restored section of the Great Wall,so its very easy to hike
Despite the hundreds of buses that visit daily, the Great Wall at Mutianyu is not as crowded as the nearby Badaling or Juyongguan sections of the Wall. Mutianyu’s 2.5 kilometer stretch of the Wall allows you to walk for more than an hour as you explore 23 watchtowers and the valley on both sides of the Wall.

The Mutianyu Great Wall was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), on the remnants of a Wall originally built in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). Reconstruction took place under the supervision of Xu Da, one of the founding generals of the Ming Dynasty, who was responsible for building a Wall from Shanhaiguan in the east to as far as Mutianyu. The Ming pass at Mutianyu was officially proclaimed in 1404, where is would serve as an important symbol of protection from marauding nomads to the north.
Reconstruction began in 1568 on 1000km of the Wall including Mutianyu. Responsibility was given to Qi Jiguang, a general who had built his credentials fighting Japanese pirates, and who took his responsibilities as a builder very seriously. Construction continued for many years, as the fortifications were built up with solid granite blocks, and included the construction of some of the larger defensive towers.

Badaling Great Wall embodies the wisdom and civilization of the Chinese nation. It is laid with historical heritages of thousands of years. Badaling Great Wall, a place contested by all strategists since ancient times, is endowed with new historical missions these days. It strides across high mountains, straddles deep oceans, crosses time and space, and serves as a bridge of friendship for all people of the world.
There is a 40-kilometer gorge from the south mouth to the north mouth, which accommodates to the famous Juyong Pass of Great Wall. In this sense, the gorge is also known as Guangou (pass gorge). Badaling sits at the highest point in the northern end of Guangou. Here, two mountain summits stand opposite each other, leaving a channel in the middle. It looks down from a height, featuring imposing circumstances. Looking down from Badaling at Juyong Pass, we feel as if peeping at other’s roofs or courtyards. Therefore, there went the old saying that Juyong Pass was strategically important in Badaling rather than the Pass itself. Because of the special topography, the Badaling mountain pass turned into a place contested by all strategists in the old days. It had always been heavily stationed. It could be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period for Badaling to develop into a strategic military location.
